As time goes by… these precious big or small moments are the gifts of life.

At sunrise and sunset, as long as you can enjoy the moment, you can still feel joyful at “sunset.”

Every object and scene in life is a wonderful companion of nature,

admire it with a meditating heart and practice this daily.

This exhibition, which is split into three parts: “1 year,” “21 days,” “15 minutes,” invites the audience to calm down using various ways, not only by admiring the paintings, but also by utilizing the trees and wood as a medium to coexist with nature. Participate in this creation, use your heart to discover her small but valuable aspects and experience the nurturing of a new habit.

"1 year"

“1 year” exhibits a total of 100 small black and white drawings, which are as simple as: a big tree, a small flower, a moment of time, music of the wind, every subtle scent, and the near yet distant sky. Artist uses a year’s worth of time to fold imagination and sentiment using simple black and white lines and text through tiny observations of life, storing them into the cabinet of memory. As you see and think after calming down, the brush strokes are sometimes brisk, sometimes slow, unseeking of realism or perfection. Through the portrayal of the present, you can converse with your heart tenderly.

"21 days"

“It is heard that it takes 21 days worth of time to nurture a new habit;

a moment’s decision and persistence can be a transformation of the self.”

In the 21 days, the artist tried to spend 15 minutes every day using senses to response to the call from nature, along different paths and places. A deep and long breath, a letter from the breeze, quietly sitting and observing in the corner, comparing heights with large trees, the sound memory of the ears, and the freely dancing of light. Through observation and experience, 21 kinds of childishness, rationality, quietness and/or unexpected ways of interacting with nature, are collected. The light and soft black and white illustrations float in the air, depicting the conversation between the earth’s images and the emptied mind of specific moments.

“15 minutes”

Sunrise and sunset, years come and go quietly, Do you give yourself time every day?

The simplicity and calmness of nature has the ability to heal the soul, allowing people to relax and own quiet time for reflection. Even if we hustle and bustle through trouble daily, as long as we pay close attention, we will notice that the quiet breath of life is everywhere. This part of the exhibition invites the audience to become artists and spend 15 minutes to interact with nature, either alone or with friends and relatives, and record the process or your feelings by painting simply. Share your “moment” on the time axis and from this moment on, let nature slowly integrate into your life and practice this daily, giving yourself some quiet and resting space.

The first exhibition this year by emerging local artist, Ms. Carmen Lym, opens now at the Art House in Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden (KFBG). The experiential exhibition “As Time Goes By – The Monochrome Moments” showcases 121 black-and-white drawings and will be on display until August 23, 2020. Wandering through the gallery, viewers will enter Carmen’s inner world, who walked away from the emotional stress of the city and eventually connected with herself through nature.

Being the first experiential art event at KFBG after the exceptional health measures, this ink-on-paper exhibition reveals the desire of humans to embrace outdoor and natural environments. “As Time Goes By,” comprising three sessions – “1 year,” “21 days,” and “The Moment” – presents the different periods and moments when the artist was discovering her inner soul and nature, and invites the audience to slow down and rest their minds. In the “The Moment” session, visitors will become artists by being invited to record their presence through pencils and paper available in the Art House. Through this expression, Carmen encourages visitors to open their hearts and discover the unnoticed but mighty wonders of nature, and to share their moment of creation in nature with all creatures of the world.
